The Palestinian official called for escalating the solidarity movement and not to surrender to the Israeli measures."Over the past few days, the international airlines, mainly European's, annulled the reservations of dozens of flights for the solidarity movements activists. Al-Khatib said this behavior "is not nice and expresses the airlines yield to the unjustified Israeli measures to fight the solidarity efforts with our people."Meanwhile, the PNA Ministry of Foreign Affairs accused Israel of violating the international laws of blocking the free movement of human beings as part of their humanitarian campaign "using unjustified excuses."The ministry called on all countries to protect its citizens who express solidarity with the Palestinian people and the governments of those countries to officially condemn the Israeli aggressive policy on the international laws and guarantee the free access of movement.Meanwhile, Palestinian lawmaker Mustafa Barghouti, chairman of the National Palestinian Initiative Party, revealed that some 2, 000 foreign activists had planned to arrive in West Bank from different countries.The Palestinian Non-Government Organizations Network (PNGO) expressed its outrage following Israel's blocking campaign. It said in a press statement that "the Israeli campaign is of incitement and threats," adding that those foreign activists still insist to visit Palestine.The statement called on the international community and all legal and rights organizations "to immediately intervene in to let those activists fly to Israel and travel to West Bank to bring their message of solidarity with the armless Palestinian people and help them to get rid of the occupation."Earlier on Sunday, 14 foreign solidarity activists were arrested at Israeli airport. A police spokesman said the police decided to deny their entrance to Israel.Gamal Goma'a, the Palestinian coordinator of the Popular Committees in West Bank, told  that Israel still insists on preventing any foreign activity that expresses solidarity with the Palestinian."This is really a clear violation of all the international laws and conventions," Goma'a said.
WASHINGTON, March 9 () -- U.S President Barack Obama and Russian President-elect Vladimir Putin agreed on Friday to build on the successful reset in bilateral relations.Obama made a phone call to Putin on his Air Force One special plane en route Richmond, Virginia to congratulate him on his victory in the March 4 presidential election, the White House said.Obama and Putin, the incumbent Russian prime minister, highlighted achievements in U.S.-Russia relations made over the past three years with President Dmitry Medvedev, including cooperation on Afghanistan and Iran, the conclusion and ratification of the new Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, and Russia's recent accession to the World Trade Organization.The reset in relations with Russia has been hailed a signature foreign policy achievement for the Obama administration. UNITED NATIONS, March 14 () -- UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Wednesday welcomed the first verdict issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) on the conviction of Thomas Lubanga for war crimes in recruiting children into his armed movement in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and called it an "important step forward.""Mr. Lubanga's conviction for the war crimes of enlisting and conscripting children under the age of 15 is an important step forward in realizing the international community's commitment to ensuring that perpetrators of crimes against children in situations of armed conflict are brought to justice," said a statement released here by Ban's spokesperson.Lubanga, the former president of the Unions des Patriotes Congolaise, was found guilty of conscripting and enlisting children under the age of 15 and using them as active participants in the conflict in the DRC in 2002 and 2003.In the statement, the secretary-general emphasized the "need for the international community to continue with its efforts to put an end to impunity and recalls the importance of holding accountable those who commit genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes.""In this connection, he reaffirms the strong commitment of the United Nations to support the independent work of the court as the centerpiece of the international criminal justice system," said the statement.Ban also said he welcomed the continued cooperation between the government of the DRC and ICC and "urges the Congolese authorities to continue to strengthen their efforts to hold accountable all perpetrators of gross human rights violations."

BEIJING, Dec. 30 () -- Senior leaders have warned that despite remarkable progress and achievements, members of the Communist Party of China (CPC) should keep sober-minded for the grim situation and arduous tasks in the country's anti-corruption drive.Members of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee met here Friday to discuss China's anti-graft cause in 2011, and to make plans for next year's battle against corruption.Participants of the meeting heard a report by the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI).The CPC members should be fully aware of the Party's resolution to combat corruption, strictly abide by the Party's discipline and firmly uphold the unity of the Party, said a statement issued after the meeting presided over by Hu Jintao, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee.The statement called for efforts to intensify the supervision over the Party cadre selection procedures.Moreover, efforts should be made to deepen the anti-graft work in the field of construction, and intensify the campaigns to deal with corruption risks generated by excessive government celebrations and seminars, as well as to cut public spending on government car use, the statement said.The statement asked the Party discipline watchdog to launch inspections in the implementation of the CPC Central Committee's important decisions to ensure that the decisions are smoothly executed.The statement also urged that preventative efforts be increased along with punishment of corruption and the strengthening of investigations of violations.The leaders agreed at the meeting that the CCDI would convene a plenary session in January, the statement said.
