MANILA, Dec. 28 () -- The Philippine government said Wednesday the 72.11 billion pesos (1.65 billion U.S. dollars) stimulus package and the 2012 budget are enough to boost growth next year."The stimulus package is already sufficient. Again, there will be a spillover to the next year. In addition to that, we also have the budget that was approved," Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacierda said in a news briefing.Lacierda said the National Economic and Development Authority will make a presentation to the president on its proposed additional stimulus measures.Lacierda said that when the budget department recommended the stimulus package to the president, it was envisioned to stimulate the economy toward the end of 2011, spilling over to 2012.As of Dec. 6, the government had already released 85 percent of the stimulus package to agencies and state-owned corporations.
OSLO, March 15 () -- A Norwegian military transport plane with five Norwegians on board, which went missing on Thursday, was feared to have crashed into the mountains in northern Sweden.The Hercules C130-J, which was reportedly missing on Thursday afternoon when it was en route from an airport in northern Norway to Kiruna airport in northern Sweden, had probably crashed, reported the Norwegian-language newspaper VG, quoting Major Ivar Moen, a press officer for the annual military exercise coded Cold Response.The ill-fated aircraft, which was participating in the exercise, did not land at the Kiruna airport in Sweden, as expected, the Rescue Coordination Center of North Norway was quoted as saying.The rescue center got the message from the Swedish air traffic service at 15:50 local time (1450 GMT) that the aircraft had not arrived as scheduled.Contact with the transport plane was lost 80 km west of Kiruna, said John Espen Lien, a Norwegian military spokesman.The aircraft took off from the Evenes airport in northern Norway at 13:41 local time (1241 GMT) to pick up materials and personnel from the Kiruna airport.Two aircraft and four helicopters have been sent to search for the missing Hercules plane. DAMASCUS, March 9 () -- Syria's information ministry said on Friday that it is still working to track down journalists who have entered the unrest-torn country illegally, vowing to step up measures against them as well as their employers.In a statement carried by the state-run SANA news agency, the ministry lambasted the work of the unlicensed journalists, saying that they are accompanying "terrorists" and fabricating news.The ministry said it will hold the foreign media sending those reporters responsible for what might happen to them due to their connection to the "armed terrorist groups."The ministry renewed its call on foreign media outlets to go through proper procedures for their journalists to enter Syria, adding that they have granted permission to over 365 Arab and Western media since the eruption of unrest in March 2011.Many foreign journalists have snuck into Syria through bordering countries such as Lebanon and Turkey.
