?NEW DELHI, June 2 () -- India's premier probe agency, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Saturday raided the residence of former health minister of the northern state of Uttar Pradesh in connection with a rural health mission scam, sources said."CBI sleuths raided former Uttar Pradesh Health Minister Anant Mishra's residence in the cities of Lucknow and Kanpur in connection with National Rural Health Mission scam and seized incriminating documents related to the scam. The CBI had earlier questioned Mishra twice in connection with the death of deputy Chief Medical Officer Y.S. Sachan, an accused in the scam," the sources said.The probe agency has so far arrested 12 people for their alleged involvement in the scam. "Mishra's arrest is imminent as the state's former Family Welfare Minister Babu Singh Kushwaha is also in jail, the sources added.The scam involves laundering of money in the pretext of upgrading 134 district hospitals in the state under the National Rural Health Mission scheme. It is alleged that some private firms got the contract for upgradation of the hospitals on the basis of forged documents. This caused a whopping loss to the exchequer as it was a central-government funded scheme.The CBI is bent on bringing the accused to justice, the sources said.
SUVA, Jan. 2 () -- Fiji's Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama has announced that the Public Emergency Regulations, commonly known as the PER, will cease by Jan. 7, the website Fijivillage said Monday.The PER has been in place in Fiji since April 10, 2009 after the Bainimarama government took power by 2006 military coup.Bainimarama was quoted as saying that the lifting of the PER is to facilitate for the consultations on the new constitution which will commence from next month and he would "in the next few weeks" announce a nationwide consultation process for a new constitution for the country. "The constitution must establish a government that is founded on an electoral system that guarantees equal suffrage a truly democratic system based on the principle of one person, one vote, one value; We will not have a system that will classify Fijians based on ethnicity; and, Our young men and women, those 18 years old must have the right to vote", he said. "We must all remember that public order, protecting the vulnerable and safeguarding the economy will always be paramount. We must also as a nation, be intolerant of those that seek refuge and political power in religious, ethnic and communal divisions", he added.However, Bainimarama stressed that public order is to be maintained.The prime minister made the announcement in his New Year's message which was published by local media on Monday.
